KERALA HOUSEBOAT

The story of houseboats in Kerala is a delightful journey from being a routine vessel to becoming a tourist wonder. Here is that story in a nutshell. The history of Kerala houseboats goes a long back. Long before the Highways came into existence and railways lines became a reality, water bodies had been the transporting veins of Kerala. As time went by, modernisation roared in and swept away water transport from mainstream travelling. Luckily, it still survives thanks to the tourist interest and local requirements. For making the structure last long, a covering layer of black resin made from boiled cashew nut shells is applied.
